Melrose Memorial Middle School

Construction of this 220,000-SF middle school posed numerous technical challenges. Located in a flood plain, sub-soil conditions required ledge removal, structural fill and installation of pile foundations. Complex underground municipal utilities were maintained throughout construction.

The new school is on a constrained site adjacent to the Melrose High School which remained open during construction. Together, the buildings offer a unified campus for grades 6 through 12. The middle school includes a varsity high school gym and 900-seat theater. Academic wings are organized into three teams per grade with a flexible project space at each grade level.
