Clyde Brown Elementary School in Millis, Mass., has earned CHPS Verified cerfitication for its new building.
The 90,000 square foot faciliity, designed by Tappe Architects, earned 135 points in meeting CHPS criteria.
The school’s mantra – “Small School, Big Family” – was incorporated into a building design that provides flexible learning environments in multiple classroom wings that each feel like a complete school on their own. The key feature of the design is the deployment of the media center out to the academic pods to create ‘learning corridors’ that are expanded and usable for multiple modes of teaching and uses.
Dedicated teacher collaboration rooms and SPED hubs allow for both group and individual focus, supporting the district’s goal of promoting exploration, inquiry, active learning and skills collaboration for every student.
The structure was built between the high school and existing elementary school with an exterior design that complements the local aesthetic.
