St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Seminary

The Seminary aspires to be the premier center of Orthodox Christian scholarship and pastoral education and to operate as an exemplary Orthodox Christian institution. The Father Georges Florovsky Library is considered one of the richest resources available on this continent for research on Eastern Christianity. The collection is especially strong in the areas of Orthodox Church history, theology, philosophy and culture, music and art. In addition to this vast resource of physical materials, patrons of the Library also enjoy digital access to the American Theological Library Association Serials (ATLAS) Database.

Tappé Archiects, Inc., in association with W. Hall Partnership, designed the new Library/Administration building for St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary College in Crestwood, NY.

To reduce the massing of the 27,000 sqft facility on the small, sloped site, the building was designed on three levels and stepped into the hillside. Nearly half of the building is underground as it is set into the hill, yet allows natural light to penetrate while patrons have views into the courtyard.
